January News and Updates

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2021.

Our first couple of weeks of the year has been busy for all of us at Bell Howley Perrotton! We've had 'panic' customers who are completely behind with their tax returns, we've had several new clients requiring their will updated and new customers wanting a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA).

While things are challenging out there at the moment, we've also had two new property investors coming on board requiring specialist tax advice to save them making unnecessary HMRC payments - now that was a nice surprise for them to start the year off!

What tax do I need to pay by 31st January 2021?

  • What if the Covid-19 pandemic has hit me hard?

  • Do I have to pay my outstanding tax?

  • What if I am struggling to pay?

The self-assessment tax return for 2019/20 must be filed by midnight on 31 January 2021. If you miss this deadline, you will automatically receive a late filing penalty of £100, regardless of whether you owe any tax, unless you are able to convince HMRC that you have a reasonable excuse for filing your tax return after the deadline.
